RIPON Bowling Club has moved to quash rumours of its impending closure which have spread throughout the city.
While the club has acknowledged it has had to address debt and funding issues, member and acting-treasurer Mike Burgess – who has stepped-in to the role to offer his expertise – said it was very much “business as usual” and there were no plans to close the venue on Boroughbridge Road.
He said: “Following an emergency meeting attended by some 300 members, a substantial amount of interest-free cash loans were offered and have subsequently been injected into the club.”
Mr Burgess also confirmed he had spoken to the club’s creditors who have agreed timetables for repayments of all debts owed by the club.
To help ease cash flow, an early membership renewal scheme has also been set up giving members the chance to pay in advance for one, two or three years’ membership at a discounted rate.
