It’s been far from just another week in the life of Harrogate’s Blues Bar whose tiny nature belies it big reputation.

A member of the production team from BBC TV’s The Voice was scouting for talent in the bar last week. Word is that at least three local singers made a good impression though, unsurprisingly, they seemed a bit reluctant to join the whole circus of a reality TV show. The Blues Bar themselves tweeted that The Voice scout tapped up Matt Goldberg, Isi D and Dan Burnett, though how this translates into progress is anyone’s guess.

Soulful keyboard maestro Burnett, whose debut album Storyville is out now, was part of the audition process for series one of The Voice.

He told Gig Scene that even if you were happy to get the nod at this point, prospective contestants still had to go to through the usual shenanigans.

He tweeted: “I was asked a couple of years ago what it would mean to me to be on The Voice and I didn’t have the answers they wanted!

There is no golden ticket to success, it seems.

In more good news for this legendary venue, the Blues Bar is currently one of only three bars to be featured as one of Esquire magazine’s ‘Pub Picks’ on its website for the Leeds area.

This week’s Blues Bar gigs include The Phil Dean Trio who plays on Sunday night.
