Harrogate Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Proms concert at the Royal Hall promises to be a tour de force - or Tour de France!

With Le Tour coming to Yorkshire shortly, the HSO commissioned Leeds composer Nick Salmon to come up with something to celebrate the great occasion musically.

The Leeds-based composer has risen to the challenge by taking the familiar tune On Ilkley Moor Baht’At and turning it into a French extravaganza.

The brand-new commission, Le Tour de France Baht ‘At, will be premiered as part of the HSO’s French/British-themed Proms on Saturday, June 7.

The concert includes other pieces featuring speed and excitement such as Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries and Adams’ Short Ride on a Fast Machine and concludes with Proms’ favourites – Sea Songs/Rule Britannia / erusalem - with the traditional flag waving and singing.

Bryan Western, the HSO’s conductor and musical director, said: “We wanted to celebrate Le Grand Départ as day one ends in our home town of Harrogate.”
