Easter parade returns

A POPULAR parade through the centre of Harrogate will return this Easter, four years after it was cancelled.

Organisers of the Harrogate International Youth Festival called off the parade, which features hundreds of performers from around the world, after North Yorkshire Police stopped providing support.

But, thanks to Knaresborough Lions and the Rotary Club of Harrogate which will be offering traffic management and planning arrangements, the parade is set to return on Saturday, April 7.

Festival committee chairman John Wood said: “We are beyond thrilled to be able to bring back something which has been loved by so many people over the years.

“There is something very nostalgic and exciting about a parade and we feel it captures the very essence of the festival’s events to bring people together and celebrate international performing talent.”

The parade marks the beginning of the festival, which runs from April 6 to April 12. For more information, visit www.hiyf.co.uk or call 0844 858 1545.
