IT’S as much an annual institution in Harrogate as the flower show - well, almost.

Rock night Bottom of the Bottle’s Back to School Party this Sunday heralds a new year at school - and a good excuse for hard rock, school uniforms and hard liquor, not to forget a game of Pantera Pass The Parcel.

As well as the DJ-ing skills of host, DJ Trev, the headliners are a local band whose reputation is high elsewhere even though they‘ve never played in their hometown before.

Day Old Hate are, reportedly, a classy ‘post hardcore’ band and are about to unleash their first demo. You can check them on Facebook at dayoldhateofficial The support acts from 8.30pm at Rehab bar include Silvertone (ex-Blaze Camero) and the intriguing tech/prog/Djent outfit Fragments.

AFTER great gigs recently featuring Bad Company’s Mick Ralphs and cult acoustic musician Michael Chapman, local promoters Kula have a trio of impressive names coming up at Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough.

Saturday, September 24 sees St Elmo’s Fire movie legend John Parr appearing, Saturday, October 15 sees gorgeous songstress Beverley Craven while Saturday, October 29 welcomes genuine music royalty in the form of Irish singer Mary Coughlan.

ALT music fans can look forward to a great music festival in Leeds come November.

Among the acts taking part in the Constellations Festival are Yuck (who might have caught at Leeds Festival at Bramham Park recently), Wild Beasts, Stephen Laklmus & The Jicks, Three Trapped Tigers, Vessels, Honour Before Glory and lots more.

A GENRE-crossing band from Devon who specialise in ska, punk and more are promoting their new CD at the Black Bull in Ripon, tonight Friday.

Called Alpha Turkey (that’s the CD, not the band), The Yum Yums reportedly are a band you cannot avoid dancing to.

Kicking off at 9pm, the first, lucky entrants will receive a copy of their CD.

EXCELLENT original modern blues rock band Idle Maestro launch their new EP at The Alex in Harrogate next Thursday night.

MORE new releases, Bedale-based guitar pop band The Conspirators have just signed to ambitious, new indie label Maddie Records.

The band’s first single will be a track called Bubbles which will come out on Monday, October 17.
