The doors will be thrown open this weekend on a whole army of artists beavering away across our county in one of the most spectacular open studio events in the whole of the UK.
From Pateley to Saltburn, the Dales to the coast, this year’s North Yorkshire Open Studios will run on two weekends - June 7-8 and June 14-15.
A total of 126 artists will be opening up their studios showing the whole range of artistics pursuits happening daily under our noses.
From basket makers and blacksmiths, potters and painters, photographers and printmakers, stained glass makers and jewellery makers, this popular free event is free .
IThe event is in its tenth year and has grown incrementally to become one of the major events in North Yorkshire’s cultural calendar.
t not only offers the chance to see great art but often the artists themselves at work.
Part of its growing popularity is the fun involved with getting off the beaten track to visit studios hidden away in breathtaking location - from barns, farms, and stables, to country cottages, period homes and suburban apartments.
North Yorkshire Open Studios is run by Art Connections, a Chrysalis Arts project.
Event director, Rick Faulkner, of Chrysalis Arts, said: “We are blessed with a range of inspiring landscapes in North Yorkshire, which help make our Open Studios one of the most spectacular such events in the country.
“Whether you are an art enthusiast or just casually interested in art this is a fascinating day out.”
All the studios are open both weekends from 10.30am to 5.30pm and visitors are welcome to drop in any time.
Rick said: “This is a unique opportunity to meet artists, to gain an insight into how their work is produced, find out what inspires them and to buy high quality art and craft directly from them.”
North Yorkshire Open Studios is also one of nearly 50 events officially selected as part of Yorkshire Festival 2014, the first ever 100 day festival to precede the Grand Départ in its 111 year history.
Behind every ordinary front door, it seems, creativity is happening in our part of the country.
