A French mum living in Harrogate has recruited her neighbours to make Yewdale Road one of the best decorated streets in town.

Nicole Halliday-Grard, 43, originally from Labassée told the street’s residents, “Allez, we must look our best for the Tour.”

She said: “I know how much of a big deal the Tour de France is, it is huge, I love France, I love Yorkshire and I love Harrogate.”

“I grew up with the Tour de France and I used to wait for the caravan it was fantastic. I know it isn’t all about the sport, it is about the community having fun together.”

Nicole’s neighbours were more than happy to oblige and soon painted bikes, mini jersey bunting and pots of yellow flowers bestowed the street.

George Elmes, 52, who lives next door said: “It has just been fantastic, bringing everyone together. You are talking to neighbours you have never spoken to before and it is a real conversation starter.

French news channel, France 2, visited Nicole and the residents of Yewdale Road, for a segment which is due to air this week.
