Tadcaster Magnet are searching for promotion this summer when they start their York Senior League campaign on Saturday.

Magnet have strengthened their ranks ahead of the new season with chairman Tyrone Naude available after three years out injured and Simon McNamara also back amongst the troops.

Ollie Baxter’s return from university will also give captain Phil Smith an abundance of options to tackle the top teams in the newly former Division Two North.

However, veteran seamer Paul Downey has moved to York-based outfit Acomb.

Magnet will be one of the favourites for the one promotion place this season, after the league amalgamated last year’s third and fourth tiers into two leagues split by region.

Tad are among only four teams from last summer’s Division Two to settle in the northern section.

Smith said his squad would promote through the club’s youth ranks in their bid for the title.

He said: “We have some very good young players, with a couple of 15-year-olds that are knocking on that first-team door.

“We are looking to win that but it’s going to be tough with only one promotion spot.

“It’s a little bit harsh. There’s some good teams in that division, for only one to go up, it’s going to be quite hard work.”

Smith’s side start their campaign at Hovingham on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Thorp Arch and Boston Spa have been placed in Division Two South for the upcoming season.

TABS were originally relegated from Division Two last year, but the league restructure provided a stay of execution. However, they will have the worst of the travelling this season with several trips to Hull-based sides.

TABS start with a trip to the River Humber when they tackle Welton & Brough.
