Ripon CC captain Tom Leeming is backing his squad to bump themselves up the table in the second half of the season.

Ripon were convincing winners on Saturday as they hammered Goole-based Carlton Towers by nine wickets to move up to seventh in York Senior League Division Three.

Chris Needham delivered a brutal spell of swing bowling to snatch 6-13 to dismiss Towers for 112.

Rob Taylor posted a half century alongside Elliot Oates (45no) as Ripon eased home in 26.5 overs.

Leeming said: “The way we played we would’ve done a job on anyone in the league.

“Chris bowled very well. He was swinging the ball a lot in a nice fullish length.”

Leeming misses Saturday’s clash at Beverley Town 2nds. John Gains will skipper the side in his absence and he can pick from strength with Toby Mills and Andrew Cook returning.

Leeming added: “We will try and put a performance in like we did on Saturday.

“The league is that tight, if you can put some wins together and get on a run you can find yourself there or thereabouts.”
