St Aidan’s School in Harrogate was once again the setting for the event to identify the North Yorkshire County Champions for under 14s basketball, which due to the weather was a straight contest between Thirsk School and St Aidan’s School.

Playing four 10 minute rolling clock quarters, Thirsk started quicker getting some early points on the board, with St Aidan’s finishing the quarter strongly to keep the contest close.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern with St Aidan’s using their height to win the majority of rebounds, but Thirsk were able to convert a greater percentage of their shots, leaving them with an advantage of a 20-12 lead at half time.

St Aidan’s started the third quarter with renewed energy, scoring some early points, but Thirsk managed to withstand the attacks and scored points on the fast break, opening up a sizeable lead.

The fourth and final quarter saw a few points added for both teams with Thirsk the eventual winners with a 45 -26 score line.

As a reward for winning, Thirsk School will now represent North Yorkshire at the regional finals on Tuesday March 12 at Leeds Metropolitan University.
