Three St Aidan’s basketball players were selected to represent the U13 Yorkshire team at the National Championships, which took place in Sheffield last weekend.
Evie Forster, Sophie Robinson and Fran Hirst competed against the best players from all regions in England. The trio only took up the sport last year and have progressed significantly to reach this level.
Mrs Buxton, St Aidan’s basketball coach stated how impressed and proud she was that so many girls have made the county team.
She said: “They have worked so hard and thoroughly deserve this success.
“Well done and good luck in the Nationals.“
The players were initially selected in a squad of 20 players, which was cut to 12 following intensive training.
They train weekly at St Aidan’s every Tuesday and also compete for Leeds Force National League Team.
Mark Gunn, the Leeds Beckett University Women’s coach, has been providing additional training sessions, open to all Harrogate players (aged 10-16) on Tuesdays 4.50-6pm at St Aidan’s.
A school spokesman said: “This weekly training session has made a significant impact on their progression.
