KNARESBOROUGH and Harrogate Pythons went head to head in a Yorkshire Four derby, where Pythons claimed local bragging rights thanks to a 19-3 win at Hay-a-Park.

In heavy drizzle the tone was set right from the kick off, where Boro’s kick was knocked on by Tom Everingham. The resultant penalty sailed harmlessly wise. The early Boro pressure was eased by a scrappy kick through, chased by Guy Burroughs who forced Boro’s winger and knock on.

The resulting scrum saw scrum half Ben Cooper put Ivane Drane clean through. Drane passed back to Cooper, who crossed unopposed in the corner.

Again the kick-off was knocked on and another series of Boro driving mauls led to a Tim Evans penalty under the posts.

Max Sharp took a quick tap penalty and made good ground, but the referee then stopped the game, to tell the crowd off for making too much noise! Drane kicked a further penalty to send Pythons in 8-3 ahead at the break.

After the restart, Cooper crossed the line but dropped the ball, although Drane tagged a penalty.

He then added a try and conversion to his tally after a quick tap penalty.

Boro never gave up, and tried to run the ball down the backs. However Rich Paterson dislodged the ball in a tackle which was hacked through, Boro came in offside and Drane kick the resultant penalty to complete victory.

Man of the match was Liam Monaghan.

Harrogate Pirates remain top of the Merit Table following a 17-5 win against Burley. Scorers were Steve Janney (1T), James Cooper (1T) Liam Clarke (1P, 2C).

The Vets lost 17-5 away to Old Leodensians with Mark Dawson scoring.
