A POPULAR Bedale club has received national recognition for its ‘elite’ sessions.
The Saturday Pentathlon Club at Bedale Leisure Centre has been recognised as part of the English Talent Pool (ETP) for Modern Pentathlon – a Sport England initiative to develop talent and the first step on the performance pathway for Modern Pentathlon.
The club opened nearly two years ago, the result of a partnership between Hambleton District Council, North Yorkshire County Council’s Extended Schools programme, the Modern Pentathlon Association and Bedale High School. It aims to give children aged eight and over the chance to practice the four sports of fencing, shooting, running and swimming.
It runs sessions on the second Saturday of each month with new and less experienced members from 12 noon until 1pm and more experienced members from 1-3pm.
Coach Sam Sanderson said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the club. Being awarded English Talent Pool recognition means that the training sessions are able to access additional funding and offer opportunities for selected young athletes.”
