Knaresborough’s John Parry continued his charge up the world rankings with his best at a European Tour event in 18 months on Sunday.

Parry recorded his third top-20 finish of the season as he finished tied-sixth at the Africa Open.

Four solid under-par rounds put the 28-year-old amongst the leaders in South Africa, however home player Trevor Fisher jnr stole a march on the field to win by five shots.

Fisher jnr produced a brilliant display to close out the tournament on 24 under par, with Englishman Matt Ford in second place.

Parry, who only suffered five bogeys in the four days, finished ten shots off the lead after consistent rounds of 68 69 69 68.

It was only the second time he had made the cut at the African Open, and bettered his highest placing at the tournament of 17 from 2013.

Parry is back inside the world’s top 500 and moved up to 68th on the Race to Dubai.

He will next be in action at the Tshwane Open in South Africa before playing in the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.
