Wetherby Athletic manager Mark Forster said he ‘desperately needs’ to sign a goalscorer in the summer after his side lost 1-0 to Oxenhope on Saturday.
The defeat means Forster’s side missed out on their target of finishing on 50 points for the season and will most likely finish in eighth place.
Athletic conceded the only goal of the game midway through the first half but Forster was left frustrated as his side spurned numerous chances to equalise.
He said: “We played very well and they are the county champions. Their ‘keeper made three or four stunning saves and the last one from Dom Creamer is the best I have seen all year.
“We battered them and then laid siege to their goal. We must have had about 25 chances but we could not get a goal so we need to find somebody to put the ball in the net.
“I’m speaking to someone this weekend and I will need a yes or no answer. We are wanting to bring someone in to play in the first team, not just to be a squad player. That’s all we’re looking for now but we know where we need to strenghten.”
Despite a disappointing end to the campaign, picking up three points from four games, Forster said his side have enjoyed a great season but is targeting silverware next year.
He said: “We definitely need to be winning a cup next season, the League Cup and the County Cup always depends on the draw and it’s difficult to win. But Knaresborough proved by getting to a final that it can be done.
“We need to be looking at finishing in the top four but there’s nothing in the league that will frighten us.”
