Harrogate Railway Ladies went top of the West Riding Womens Premier League with a 3-1 win over Brayton Belles on Sunday.

The match was played like a game of chess for the first 35 minutes as neither side gave much room for errors.

It took until a great tackle from Rachel McDonald in midfield for Railway to pounce for an opener.

The midfielder passed out wide to Louise Donnelly who in turn played a great pass for Emma Elliott to go one on one and slot the ball into the bottom right corner on 37 minutes .

The goal spurred Railway on and they created four chances in quick succession only to be stopped by Brayton’s on form ‘keeper.

The second half was a more entertaining half for the spectators as Brayton opened up looking for an equaliser.

However, it took up to the 80th minute before the next goal came. Chloe Elphick latched on to a cross from Nicola Hadley and poked over the line.

Only two more minutes passed before Railway pressed forward again. From the left wing Purvis passed sweetly through for Elphick to run onto, and after three touches, she drove the ball home from 20 yards.

Railway were on course for a clean sheet up until the 87th minute when Brayton got a well deserved goal, 3-1.

This Sunday, Railway Ladies face Bradford Park at Station View from 2pm.

Meanwhile, Wetherby Athletic Ladies’ potential title deciding clash against league leaders Westella and Willerby was postponed on Sunday.

Athletic’s Reserves enjoyed a 4-1 win over Dewsbury Rangers.
