At last! Now the details are finally emerging about the celebrations around the Tour de France in our town - and the logistics of how we are going to deal with all the visitors.
Harrogate will go into lock down basically from 4am on the Saturday until 10pm. There’ll be a huge car park at the showground, and a Wembley Way style decorated walkway along the roads from there to the town centre.
However, most people rather imagined that would be the case when the world’s biggest sporting event was about to descend on their town.
What is very new is the detail of the ‘Fan Park’ which has been revealed by the council this week. The authority has been in negotiation with the Velo-Gogo organisation which has just confirmed Harrogate will be the only Tour de France Fan Park staged outside London.
It’s a four day party for families to enjoy and savour the whole Tour de France atmosphere and excitement, with entertainment and giant screens on the Stray.
The exact details of the Tour weekend in town have been hazy up to now, but finally, in this 100-day countdown, we are getting the picture. And it’s a good one!
