AN 85-year-old Bedale woman has died and two men have been injured after an accident on the A1 near Kirby Fleetham.
The woman was a passenger in a green Ford Fiesta crossing the south-bound carriageway of the A1 towards Kirby Fleetham, north of Bedale, at around 12.30pm on Saturday, May 21.
A red Rover 25 was travelling south on the A1 at the time and the two cars collided.
The woman was a airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where she later died.
Police say they will not be revealing her identity until later this week.
Her 87-year-old husband, the driver of the Fiesta, was taken to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton where police say he remains in a stable condition.
The driver of the Rover, a 39-year-old Hartlepool man, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with chest injuries. He is still in hospital in a serious but not life threatening condition.
Now police investigating the crash are appealing for help from witnesses.
Traffic Sergeant Clare Sawyer, of the North Yorkshire Roads Policing Group, said:
“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident to come forward as I need to speak to them.”
