Town ready for the big switch-on

THE Christmas lights will be switched on in Harrogate next Thursday as part of a night of entertainment.

It will begin at 4pm in front of the Victoria Shopping Centre on Station Parade with a performance from singing sisters Disctracted.

Also on the bill is local singer-swongwriter Youcef Preston and the St Aidan’s High School Brass Band and Chamber Choir.

The night will offer the first glimpse of the characters from Harrogate Theatre’s pantomime, Beauty and the Beast. The Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Les Ellington, will switch on the lights at 6pm - with help from a special festive guest.

After the lights are switched on, there will be a procession to the Wesley Chapel in Oxford Street where a carol service will be held.

Meanwhile, a competition to find Harrogate’s most festive shop window will be judged at the end of this month and businesses still have time to enter.
