Ripon’s long-serving town clerk has resigned after 16 years with the council.
Yvonne Covell announced her resignation at a council meeting on Monday, December 5.
She said: “Due to the actions of some of the councillors I will be resigning and giving three months notice, effective immediately.”
Speaking after the meeting Mrs Covell declined to comment on Monday’s events, but said she was resigning to spend more time with her family and on her charity work with Scuba Diving for All.
“Next year is Scuba Diving for All’s tenth anniversary and we want to get more people into the water and build up our helpers.”
Mayor of Ripon Coun Mick Stanley said Mrs Covell’s resignation had come “out of the blue” but praised her record with the council.
“She has been with us 16 years and has been a good servant to the council, so it will be different without her.”
