The Harrogate Chess Club:THE results for the season's second matches for all three Harrogate teams were very promising and we now appear to be heading in the right direction. The new influx of players such as Jonathan Round, Stuart Johnson and Robert Walwyn to the club is having an effect. There was also the use of a temporary venue of Trinity Church Hall where the hospitality was first class - thank you.
The “A” team narrowly lost by one point against Wakefield “A” ie 3 points to 5. There was a good win from John Link and four supporting draws from Chris Miller, Graham Wilson, David Glover and Jonathan Round.
The “B” team achieved the good result of 4.5 to 3.5 against Pontefract “A”. There were three very good wins from William Boothman, Steven Revell and David Harasym plus very acceptable draws from Ian Hunter, John Brooke and Jim Postill.
The “C” team had a similar result by beating Wakefield “B” 4.5 to 3.5. Again there were three wins, this time from Stuart Johnson, Andrew Zigmond and Ranyl Hughes with welcome draws from John Marsh, Terry Gilling and Robert Walwyn.
The club is still more than interested to hear from ladies and juniors, whether at secondary school or not, who are interested in playing chess, but have not yet joined the club.
The venue of the Harrogate Chess Club is The Convent of the Holy Child at 35, Oatlands Drive and the club meets every Monday (except for Bank Holidays and the school summer holidays) between 7.30 and 10pm.
