The 25th anniversary of the legendary and spectacular Firecracker Ball, which took place at Rudding Park in Harrogate, has raised a record-breaking £230,000 to help disadvantaged children across Yorkshire.
Over 700 guests attended the evening and were entertained by Ali Campbell of UB40 fame, and designer Ben De Lisi auctioned a bespoke couture dress.
In the last eleven years the Firecracker Ball, organised by local business professionals, has raised over £1.5m for Barnardo’s. This year’s funds are specifically supporting Barnardo’s child sexual exploitation work across the region.
A brave and moving speech by a young person from Yorkshire who has been affected by sexual exploitation and supported by Barnardo’s to rebuild her life inspired guests to give generously at the ball.
Phil Taylor, Firecracker Ball committee chairman and vice president of Barnardo’s, said: “This year we have surpassed all expectations with record fundraising. My extreme gratitude goes to the committee that works tirelessly each year to deliver an event to remember, our sponsors, without whom we wouldn’t have a platform to start from, and of course to our esteemed guests who give generously every time. Our 25th anniversary event has been momentous.”
