A VILLAGE pub welcomed some famous faces this week when came under the spotlight.
The centuries old Royal Oak at Staveley, near Boroughbridge, was closed to normal customers for two days so that it could "star" in a national television programme.
Producers of ITV’s The Booze Cruise 2 had chosen it for filming because it empitomises a typical English country pub.
Landlord, Steve Wharton said: "It is an honour to be selected. The researchers paid us a number of visits and looked at many other pubs before making their final choice.
“I am sure our many regular customers will understand the reason for closing for two days and enjoy seeing their local on national television.”
His partner, Marie Wray, will be seen in the programme serving food to her TV customers, including such well known faces as Brian Murphy, Mark Benton and Neil Pearson.
Regulars at the Royal Oak were pleased to see their pub reopen on Tuesday evening and are now looking forward to watching it on TV, sometime in the autumn.
