Meet the champion of our Pets at Christmas competition, Pickle!

The springer spaniel lives in Harrogate with owner Cathy Woodham.

Pickle fought off fierce competition from 100 other pets, who were snazzily dressed up for Christmas.

The Harrogate Advertiser Series, in association with Kendall’s Farm Butchers, asked readers to submit pictures of their pets getting ready for the festive season.

Pickle’s prize is a private photo shoot courtesy of JD Photography, Thirsk.

JD Photography will take a portrait of Pickle, and supply Cathy with a free 10x8 print.

Pickle joined the Woodham family from Moorview Rescue in Bewerley.

Cathy said: “She’s a very much loved family pet.

“She’s a rescue dog from Moorview Rescue at Bewerley who do a fantastic job saving many many dogs.”

Cathy revealed that Pickle had admirers even before her starring role in our competition.

She explained: “Pickle has quite a fan club with my boyfriend John Bond’s customers.

“He’s a gardener and some of his customers don’t have a dog themselves but buy in dog biscuits especially for when Pickle comes to visit.

“She is often offered a drink before John gets a cup of tea or coffee!”

Our competition was run in association with Kendall’s Farm Butchers.

Kendall’s has developed a range of Dales dog food.

Cathy said: “We were interested in the dog food from the butchers in Pateley Bridge as we try and avoid typical canned dog food with additives.”

The family is looking forward to the photo shoot, as John’s son Greg is currently visiting from Canada.

“It will be a lovely momento of his visit,” said Cathy.

Readers took the opportunity to vote for their favourite pet over the festive break, with results revealed this week.

In second place was six-month old Shi Tzu Bobby, who belongs to Carol Glover.

In joint third place were Boston terrier Snoots, of Harrogate, and Ripon cocker spaniel Minnie Mouse.

Harrogate Advertiser News Editor Alex Johnston said: “We had a fantastic response to our call for readers to send in snaps of their pets getting ready for Christmas.

“Thank you for taking the time to send your pictures, and to all of those who voted.

“Every pet was a winner in our eyes, but special congratulations go to Pickle, who won the hearts of our readers!”
