The Ripon Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) has started getting ready to mark the hundredth anniversary since the start of the First World War.
For the first time, the RBL will have a poppy stall on both Saturday, November 1, and Saturday, November 8, in the market square to raise money for the appeal.
Remembrance events also begin on Saturday, November 1 with the memorial gardens near Ripon Cathedral – next to the former Tourist Information office – opening at 10.30am for people to place their crosses before two minutes’ silence is held at 11.11am.
Chairman of the Ripon branch of the RBL, Mr Jeet Sahi, said: “All these past years, the Ripon RBL has had fanatastic support from the public and we hope to have that same success this year, not only with the donations but with attendance and involvement in the events.”
On Remembrance Sunday, November 9, a memorial service will start in Ripon Spa Gardens at 10.45am before a procession to the cathedral where a Service of Remembrance will be held from 11.40am-1pm.
