A Harrogate singer was given two reasons to celebrate this week as her musical career goes from strength to strength.
Katie Skinner, 22, a former St Aidan’s student signed a record deal this week, just hours after her song was played on BBC Radio One.
The singer songwriter who recently graduated from Leeds College of Music said: “It has been a bit of a mad week really, I hadn’t realised my song would be played on Radio One but then I got lots of messages from people who had heard it.”
BBC Radio York presenter Jericho Keys has been a longtime supporter of Katie who goes by the name Skinner, and her music.
“Jericho has been a huge supporter and has played my music on his introducing show on Radio York.”
The Whitby-born radio presenter was covering for Huw Stevens on Radio One’s evening show when he played Skinner’s song Dangerous Game.
She said: “I am really grateful to him for playing the song. I have had a lot more listens on Soundcloud since it was played.”
Katie is currently working for a recruitment firm in Otley and her record deal with Anonymous records mean that she will release at least three EPs over the next two years.
She said: “I have had some great opportunities, singing is always something that I wanted to do.
“I have always wanted to write songs for myself and for other people too. I am determined to make something of this opportunity.”
