May Day: The Glasshouses Mayday celebration will take place on Monday, May 5, starting with the procession of the May Queen from the crossroads at the top of the village at 2pm to the village green where the festivities will be held. Please note that the main road through Glasshouses will be closed to traffic between 2-2.15pm. Car Boot Sale: There will be a car boot sale in aid of Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall at Pateley Showground on Bank Holiday Monday May 5, 8am-3pm. Further information from 01423 711973.

Pateley Bridge WI: On Thursday May 8, Ian Barker of Stonegate Farm, Whixley, will give an illustrated talk on his Sheep Dairy and ewes' milk products. There will be tastings and an opportunity to buy products. Everyone welcome at Pateley Club, High Street, at 7.30pm. Advance notice of a Table Top Sale to be held at The Scout Hut on Tuesday May 20, from 11am-1pm.

Bags2School: There will be another Bags2School collection from Glasshouses CP School on Tuesday May 13 at 10.15am. Please save all your unwanted items of clothing, bedding, handbags, shoes, soft toys etc. Bags will be delivered around Glasshouses village before that date, but black bags are also acceptable. With your continuing support we have been able to raise in the region of 500 a year for school projects, so please help to make this year as successful. Deliver bags to school after 9.30am on the morning of May 13, leave them outside your door for collection on the morning of May 13 (please mark any plain bags clearly to show they are for Bags2School), or ring Sue on 712201 to arrange collection.

Ladies Day: They're Off! Four fine fillies come under Starters Orders at 7.30pm on Monday night as Ladies' Day begins a six-night run at the Playhouse. Amanda Whittington's smash-hit comedy about four Yorkshire fish-packers who pack in the factory for a day at the Races has already pulled the crowds, and you may have to rush to find seats as eager punters have already bet heavily on this fine-spirited thoroughbred to guarantee them a grand night out! Glasshouses WI: Our next meeting will be on Wednesday May 14 (7.30pm at the Broadbelt Hall) when two resolutions will be discussed: The proposed ban on trawling on the sea-bed, and the inappropriate imprisonment of the seriously mentally ill. This will be followed by a buffet supper. All are welcome.

Aquafit: Organised by Glasshouses WI every Tuesday, 11am-noon at Nidderdale Leisure Pool. 6 sessions 25. A fun way to exercise. Everyone welcome - you don't have to be a WI Member - just turn up at the pool and enjoy.

Car Park Season Tickets: Tickets are now available from Nidderdale Fine Wines, the Post Office, Sypeland Outdoors and the Nidderdale Plus office located at the King Street Studio Workshops (behind the council offices).

WEA Nidderdale Branch: Day school 2008, a visit to Burton Agnes Hall and Bridlington old town, Saturday May 31. The Coach will leave Pateley Bridge at 9am and will stop at designated picking-up points along the dale – please contact Margaret Tabrah if you wish to join the coach at one of these points. We anticipate leaving Bridlington at 7pm. The price of tickets for WEA members and their guests is 17.50 per person, to include coach and entrance to house, gardens and guided tour. Pateley Bridge Town Council: The next monthly meeting will be on Tuesday May 6. All parishioners are entitled, and are indeed welcome, to sit in at meetings of the Town Council.

Pateley Pharmacy: A message from Denise and David. We would like to say a big thank you to all people of Pateley Bridge for their custom and friendship during our stay, we will miss you all very much. Also a big thank you to our loyal staff, Pam and Margaret, without whom we would not have survived. We hope to be back for holidays and will enjoy seeing Pateley and all of our friends again. WI Outing: The Upper Nidderdale group of WIs are having an outing to Beamish on Wednesday June 25, leaving Pateley Bridge at 9am. There are seats available for non WI members and everyone is welcome. Parent and Toddler: Glasshouses Parent and Toddler group meets every week during term time at Glasshouses Primary School, starting from 1.45pm until 3.15pm. 1 per parent. Come and join us for lots of fun!'

FrogHoppers: FrogHoppers Pre-School Playgroup (which is situated behind St Cuthberts Primary School) has sessions available for pre-school children age 2 years and over. FrogHoppers runs only Monday to Friday 9am to 12.15pm at 7 per session. There is also an optional lunch club 12.15pm to 1pm at 1. Most 3 and 4 year olds will be eligible for funding - so its free. Froghoppers offers fantastic indoor and outdoor play facilities and has an excellent Ofsted Report. Meet The Reporter: Nidderdale Herald reporter Vicky Carr will be visiting Pateley Bridge on Friday, May 2 to meet local folk. She will be at The Old Granary Teashop 10.45-noon.

St Cuthbert’s CE School: Angela Turnbull will be leaving employment at St. Cuthbert’s as a supervisor on Friday May 23. The school would like to thank Angela for her hard work and wish her well in her new job. The school is therefore seeking to employ someone Monday – Friday for one hour each day, 12-1. Coffee Morning: There will be a coffee morning in aid of St Mary’s Church, Greenhow in St Cuthbert’s Lounge on Friday May 9, 10am-12.

Art Club: Pateley Bridge Art Club will meet on Tuesday May 6 at Broadbelt Hall, Glasshouses at 7.15pm. There will be a “trees” workshop with John Belderson. Bring water based media. Refreshments available, all welcome. Small charge for visitors.
