A Sharow woman brought an unexpected stowaway along for the ride after a recent trip to Vietnam.
Judy Thomson, 28, spotted what she thinks is an Asian Forest Scorpion cuttling across her living room floor one evening last week.
She said: “I was watching the Olympic coverage on the TV and just caught something out of the corner of my eye. It looked significantly bigger than your average house spider, but it wasn’t until I scooped it up into a margarine tub that I realised it was a scorpion.
“Needless to say I was pretty taken aback, and more than slightly concerned as to what a scorpion was doing in my lounge!”
Judy took the insect into work where she hoped her boss, a wildlife enthusiast, might be able help identify the unusual creature. They now think could be an Asian Forest Scorpion.
“The only thing I can think of is that it hitched a ride to Yorkshire from a recent trip abroad. It has now found a home though as the official pet in my office,” she added.
