Northallerton’s Nicola Proud has received a Fundraising Volunteer of the Year award from the British Heart Foundation (BHF) for her relentless determination in the fight against heart disease.

Nicola picked up the North Yorkshire area winner award during Volunteers’ Week, the annual celebration that recognises the fantastic work of all volunteers across the UK.

Nicola scooped the accolade for her dedication to the BHF demonstrated in her fantastic fundraising efforts, helping the charity to raise money to fund its life-saving research.

Her first fundraising event for the BHF was the Rock Up In Red ball held in February this year which raised a staggering £18,835. Nicola has since gone on to set up the Northallerton BHF Fundraising Group to continue her vital fundraising.

“I was truly shocked to hear I had been given such a special award as I know there are so many worthy volunteers who give their time to the BHF,” she said.

“Deciding to share our story was difficult for us, but I wanted to organise the Rock up in Red ball to give something back to a charity which had helped us so much after my husband had a heart attack in January 2015. It was overwhelming to see so much support from people in Northallerton and I had a fantastic group of friends helping make the event a success.”

“The Rock up in Red Ball has left us with many happy memories and it meant so much to have the opportunity to turn such a horrible situation into a positive one.”

I couldn’t have done this without the support of the BHF team.”
