A new plan designed to give the people of Ripon a greater say in the city’s

future will be be considered by Harrogate Borough Council at the end of the year.

The department for planning, transport and economic development will consider whether Ripon should become a ‘Neighbourhood Area’ and where the precise boundaries of the new scheme will be.

Almost 50 questionnaires on the new proposals, completed by residents in Ripon, were handed into the council earlier this month, to help establish where the precise boundary of the new area will be.

The council agreed in September that Ripon should be designated as a new ‘Neighbourhood Area’ , in an effort to adopt the Government’s Localism Agenda, where local people can help guide the future of where they live.

Once established, the neighbourhood plan would include in its scope an aim to revitalise the city centre, improve the local economy and encourage sustainable development.

Gill Ritchie, principal planner at Harrogate Borough Council, said: “People who live and work in Ripon were consulted widely as well as other relevant members of the community.”
