New campaign promotes markets

A special campaign to encourage shoppers to savour the joys of the UK’s markets came to Northallerton.

Led by the National Market Traders Federation and supported by Hambleton District Council the Making Markets Matter roadshow brought competitions and activity into the market to highlight just how important the market is to the town and local people.

“Once again Making Markets Matter has been a resounding success, fulfilling its objectives in enhancing the markets shopping experience, together with all the fun and games involved in the event,” said Market Traders Federation chief executive Joe Harrison who attended the event.

“I feel that both young and old will remember the experience they had on the market, on the day and it will encourage them to continue market shopping for many years to come.”

And Nigel Davison, market manager of the Northern Dales Farmers Markets said “The day was great for the market, it was really good to be a part of it. I think it really helped to raise the markets profile.”

“The event - which coincided with the first day of the school holidays and our monthly farmers market - saw hundreds of face painted children visiting the town. They brought more attention to the market and encouraged more visitors to the high street.”
