Plans to build up to 175 homes on fields bordering Ripon and Littlethorpe have been unveiled by developers.
Planning and development consultant Johnson Brook has written to Harrogate Borough Council requesting a ‘Screening Opinion’ for the dwellings on the 7.7-hectare site to the east of the A61 Harrogate Road and south of Ripon bypass, next to Bellwood Farm.
‘Screening Opinions’ can be requested by developers prior to submitting planning applications to establish whether a project requires an Environmental Impact Assessment, the process aiming to identify those projects that are likely to have significant effects on the environment.
In its request to Harrogate Borough Council, Johnson Brook says the site “will not give rise to significant environmental impact”.
While Johnson Brook does not believe the scheme requires an Environmental Impact Assessment before it submits a formal planning application, the decision rests with Harrogate Borough Council which must give a ruling by February 23.
