Mystery of the Headless Horseman

THE EERIE spectacle of a headless horseman has been seen in Knaresborough!

Keen-eyed residents will have seen the tragic fate of the life-sized Millennium Charger situated at the front of Knaresborough House.

Presented to the town by the Knaresborough in Bloom committee two years ago, the woven willow statue was created and made by Whitby-based sculptor, Emma Stothard.

Now however, it is thought vandals have removed the horse's head sometime between Hallowe'en and Mischief Night in scenes reminiscent of the film 'Sleepy Hollow' and, despite an extensive search of the grounds of Knaresborough House by council workmen, the head has not been found.

Town Clerk, Emily McDowell said: "Steps will be taken to try and replace the horse's head. Some time ago a foot had to be recreated after it went missing."
