THREE local businessmen from Thirsk got together last month to get involved in ‘Movember’, they all grew moustaches and proudly displayed them in public during the month of November.

Andrew Van Parys from Home Instead Senior Care, Duncan Haigh from Arthur Haigh Ltd and David Macmillan from DM Scientific Ltd, who are all members of Northallerton and District Round Table, teamed up at the beginning of November to raise awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

All three of them successfully grew moustaches for ‘Movember’, even though at times they found them a little irritating and uncomfortable!

Andrew Van Parys of Home Instead Senior Care said: “I’m not used to wearing a moustache, I did find it strange at first and slightly uncomfortable.

“It was worth it because it certainly created many conversations and questions around why I was growing one, and, therefore, helped to raise awareness for men’s health.

“Unfortunately many men avoid going to their GP if they have concerns about their health, so it was good to get involved in bringing men’s health into the public arena.”
