A man in his fifties from Leeds died following a single car collision at Buttersyke Bar outside Harrogate on Saturday.

The man, who has not yet been named by police, was the driver and sole occupant of the silver BMW 1-series which left the road and came to rest in a hedge at the Buttersyke Bar roundabout with the A61 and A658 off the Harrogate by-pass at 4.09pm on Saturday, May 17.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the A61 and A658 were closed with local diversions put in place.

This was to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and to allow the vehicle to be recovered.

All roads were reopened by 10pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and to anyone who saw the BMW prior to the collision to contact them.
