Local charity Dementia Forward recently held a black tie dinner to celebrate the charity winning the Nursing Times Award 2013 in the Mental Health category. The awards ceremony was held at Governor Park hotel, London, but was too far for people to travel so members of the younger people with dementia group known as TOTS (Time Out Together) celebrated the award by attending a special evening at the White Hart hotel, Harrogate. Everyone involved in this innovative service was presented with their own award by the Deputy Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Clare McKenzie. The 48 guests including trustees, carers and local people living with dementia and representatives from the local mental health trust gathered to watch a film and, while they were munching popcorn, spoof Oscars were awarded to those people who shared their life experiences and stories on camera. The awards were presented by Patrick Dunlop from Stray FM.
