A new national centre of excellence in dementia care in Harrogate has won development backing from Yorkshire Bank.
The new £5m national centre of excellence, being built in Starbeck for Harrogate-based Vida Healthcare, has gained support from Yorkshire Bank’s Harrogate Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) through its Investing for Growth initiative.
The new 70-bed facility, Vida Hall, due to open in December, is set to create 70 new jobs and aims to set a new best practice for all aspects of dementia care including day care, respite and permanent residency.
Vida Healthcare, part of Harrogate-based property and healthcare business The Rycroft Group, is run by father-and-son team Chris and James Rycroft, who also developed Belmont House at Starbeck.
James, who is managing director, said: “In spite of the wet summer, construction work is progressing well on this exciting new facility.
“Funding is important for an ambitious scheme such as this and we’re pleased to have gained support from Yorkshire Bank’s Harrogate FSC at a time when many banks are still not lending to small businesses.”
Yorkshire Bank has special expertise in supporting care homes and specialist dementia care units throughout the UK, with several in the North East and Yorkshire including those for independent and national care home operators.
David McIntyre, business partner at Yorkshire Bank’s Harrogate FSC, said: “An ageing population means that specialist care for older people is becoming crucial for all communities.
“Yorkshire Bank is pleased to be supporting this extremely high-quality venture from Vida Healthcare, and to be working with one of Harrogate’s best-established business families.”
