Harrogate U3A (University of the Third Age)

THIS year the AGM will take place at the Cairn Hotel, Ripon Road, Harrogate at 2pm on Friday, September 21.

The day has been planned for pleasure as well as business. Members and anyone interested in finding out more about Harrogate U3A are invited to view the group displays before and after the AGM, starting at 11am and finishing about 4pm.

Refreshments including light lunches will be available in the lounge area, and there will be plenty of opportunity to catch up with friends, and to chat to members and group leaders.

Harrogate U3A is part of a worldwide organisation drawing on the talents and experience of its members to provide learning opportunities for people no longer in full time employment. It is run by the members for the members.

Current interest groups include: Armchair Travellers, Bridge, Card Craft, Creative Writing, Current Affairs, Family History, French, Gardening, German, History of Art, Keep Fit, Local History, Looking at Churches, Music for Pleasure, Naturalists, Painting, Philosophy, Photography, Play Reading, Poetry, Reading for Pleasure, Science, Singing, Sketching, Sunday Lunch Club, Textile Crafts, Theatre, Vegetarian Cookery and Walking.

Group meetings are organised by a group leader and members. The groups vary in size and frequency of meeting. Suggestions for new interest groups, and a willingness to organise them are very welcome.

In addition there are general events open to all members including a monthly Open Meeting at which guest speakers give a presentation on a wide variety of topics, a Summer Outing and a very popular Christmas Lunch.

The U3A offers: the opportunity to pursue learning for sheer enjoyment and for its own sake; shared learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and the opportunity to meet like minded people.
