A Harrogate Advertiser duo is taking on a 220-mile charity cycle challenge from Ripley to Edinburgh.
Head of content George Hinton and reporter Alex Johnston will take to the country lanes and inevitable inclines on the four-day route in June.
The Ride to the North event has raised over £45,000 for children’s charity Barnardo’s since it launched four years ago, and both writers are aiming to raise £1,800 for the cause.
With the ride four months away, both George and Alex have started training hard, in a bid to be prepared to cope with what they expect to be a challenging cross-border route.
George said: “We are under no illusions, this challenge is going to be tough.
“I’m not convinced either of us is anywhere near to being fit enough yet, but we’ll be giving it a good go!
“At least there are plenty of lanes and inclines around Harrogate we can train on.”
On the forthcoming attempt for each to raise £1,800, George explained: “It is no small amount.
“Every little will help, though, and I am expecting everyone in the office to dig deep!”
Alex said: “I was going to try and do the Great North Run this year, but this is a good deal more interesting.
“Cycling training arguably requires you to build up strength in more areas than running and the time has come for me to get going in that department.
“Being from Aberdeen, the trip is only really half way home, but when we get to Edinburgh, I know a few good places we can celebrate.
“Any money anyone can give would be appreciated, especially by the kids the charity works hard to help.”
The riders will set off from Ripley Castle on June 27, heading past Masham and Richmond on the way to an overnight stay in Middleton-in-Teesdale.
From there, the route crosses the border north to Newcastleton.
The final day of the challenge involves a ride from Innerleithen to Holyrood Park in Edinburgh.
There are still places available for anyone who wants to do the ride.
