A festival showcasing a range of sports and activities is taking place at Ripon Grammar School over the bank holiday.

The VX Festival takes place at the school’s sports hall on Monday, August 27, from 1 - 5pm when grassroots sports will be promoted.

Endorsed by the Sports Council and National Governing Bodies of Sport, this is part of a new Government initiative called Join In Local Sport.

There will also be two Olympic torches for spectators and participants to see and be photographed with.

VX – originally called rock-it ball – is a fast and furious gladiatorial sport with the aim of scoring points by hitting your opponent with a low impact tennis ball. It is particularity beneficial in developing hand-eye co-ordination, speed, power, strength and cardiovascular fitness.

All ages are welcome to attend the event and all equipment will be provided. Participants just need to bring a pair of trainers.

l As one of the fastest growing clubs in the country, Ripon VX Club is looking for new members. Anyone interested should contact Helen Mackenzie by telephoning her on 07896 534539.
