A Harrogate pupil is one of just five Primary School finalists in a national competition aimed at teaching children about managing money.

Rossett Acre Year 5 pupil Mia Felstead will head to the 2016 My Money Week Prize Giving Day at the British Museum in London next month.

Mia said: “I am so proud to have been picked as a finalist and am extremely excited to be able to go to London and attend the award ceremony.”

The youngster was among 5,211 entries received from primary schools across the UK for the competition which focused on how we value what makes us happy.

Miss Haigh, Mia’s Year 5 Teacher stated: “We are extremely proud of Mia.

“The children really put a lot of thought and effort into their competition entries.

“It was an invaluable opportunity for us all to reflect on the fact that the things that make us truly happy can cost very little or nothing at all.”

The overall winner will win a £50 voucher and £500 for their school.

Headteacher Mrs Penhale added: “We are thrilled that Mia has been chosen as a finalist. What a wonderful achievement.”
