Thirsk School and Sixth Form College ripped up its timetable for Enrichment Week before breaking up for the summer.

The lower school took part in a range of activities and trips designed to enrich their lives.

The Greek Gods, Hera (Ms Simpson) , Apollo (Mr Kelly), Poseidon (Mr Rickard), Athena (Mrs Millett-Clarke) and Hermes (Miss Foden), descended on the school and selected staff and pupils from years seven, eight and nine to be minions within their house.

Pupils had to work to collect points to help them become the champion God. They did so by working in a small mixed age group to complete challenges including gardening, motorbikes, bicycles and F1, walking, hill walking, canoeing, travel, holidays, retail, birding, wildlife, equine, baking, cooking, flowers, reading, IT, blogs, music, TV, film and photo.

Some of the groups had a single challenge whilst others had several challenges.

The staff worked hard to develop creative challenges.

These included canoe building, labelling the different parts of a motorbike kindly brought in by Mr J. Odling, site manager, creating an Olympic news blog, animal origami, bird watching, flamenco dancing, modelling famous buildings using plasticine, creating an Olympic themed garden, come dine with me table design based on an Olympic hero, and countless more.

Apollo’s Green house won with 3442points.

A special mention was given to Athena’s Group 7 which earned the most marks of any group and received full marks on one of the challenges!!

Luke Brownlee Year 7, said he enjoyed the two days because “the work was independent.”
