Visitors to Kiplin Hall at Scorton will be able to dip into a Dickensian Christmas Compendium awhere all the rooms are decorated with fresh greenery, flowers and Christmas trees.

Staff, volunteers and local flower clubs have taken as their theme A Dickens of A Christmas, inspired by the novels of Charles Dickens, in particular The Pickwick Papers and A Christmas Carol.

Original Victorian dresses, fashion plates and magazines, shoes and bodices are on loan for Christmas from the fantastic History Wardrobe. These will be displayed on the Long Gallery, all ready for a Pickwickian Christmas Ball.

The Cratchits’ kitchen, an old-fashioned card party from Pickwick Papers and Mr Fezziwig’s Annual Christmas Ball are all remembered in the lovely displays.

Local craftspeople and traders will have stalls at the Christmas gift fair in the Maryland Study Centre, offering cards, tatting and more.
