Theives have targetted traffic lights guarding roadworks on Masham’s Station Road.

Eight batteries worth £1000 in total were stolen in the early hours of Sunday, June 5, leaving the traffic lights out of order for the rest of the weekend.

The deep cycle batteries, owned by York-based Farnell Traffic Management, are the same as those used in caravans and were manufactured by a company called Crown.

A police spokesperson confirmed they had been asked to pay passing attention to the traffic signals after the batteries had gone missing.
