Success for campaign

Thirsk police have thanked local residents and parents after an operation to crack down on vandalism at local schools was a success.

In July, the local Safer Neighbourhood Team launched an initiative to deter vandals and anti-social behaviour around schools in Sowerby, Thirsk and Easingwold.

Local officers carried out increased patrols in the area around the schools. Postcards were delivered to local residents and posters were displayed asking people to report any suspicious behaviour in the area.

A number of letters were also sent to the parents of children found on school premises.

As a result, police said the incidents of damage and anti-social behaviour reduced to virtually nothing.

Sgt Frances Hannan of Thirsk Safer Neighourhood Team, said: “This is a great example of how the public can support the police and help the whole community.”
