The Tewit Youth Band is performing a January concert in aid of Harrogate Lions’ bid to raise £80,000 to buy a new eye laser scanner for the

district hospital.

The concert will take place at the Crown Hotel on Saturday, January 18 from 7.15pm.

The band has performed in many prestigious venues in the UK, including the Royal Festival Hall London, Symphony Hall and Town Hall in Birmingham and the Royal Hall and International Centre in Harrogate.

The Senior Band has toured extensively throughout Europe with many successful performances.

Colin Gibbs is President of the Tewit Youth Band.

He said: “Tewit Youth Band was formed 35 years ago by the late Leighton Rich MBE, and has gone from strength to strength since then.

“It’s aims have been to provide an opportunity for young people, throughout the district, from the age of six to learn to play a brass instrument and eventually play at a very high standard.”

The band has taken part in competitions throughout the country with great successes and in 2013 became current Saddleworth Whit Friday overall Youth Brass Band Champions and Silver medallists at the National Youth Brass Band Championships.

They have also won the Open Band Section of Harrogate Competitive Festival more times than any other band.

Entry to the concert will cost £7 for adults and £3 for under 15’s.

Tickets are available by email to or by calling 01423 522170.

Tickets are also available from Specsavers Opticians, who are also supporting the cause.

Refreshments will be on sale throughout the evening.

Mr Gibbs added: “The new eye laser will be a major benefit to all people throughout the district and needs your support to make it happen.

“Put it in your diary now and order your tickets.

“Come along and and enjoy yourselves!”
