Harrogate’s newest bar, The Pit, will open its doors on June 28, following a £1million investment.

Unlike the bar’s new neighbour, Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian, The Pit will be open in time for the Tour de France, which will race past the Parliament Street development on July 5.

The new bar is expected to bring 50 jobs to the area.

The 7,000 sq ft bar will be partly buried within the newly reconstructed Harrogate House on The Ginnel, off Parliament Street and will boast a main bar, dining area, two private dining rooms and a games area with table tennis and table football.

Martin Wolstencroft, managing director of Arc Inspirations - the group behind The Pit said: “‘We are really proud to be opening our newest venture in Harrogate.

“The location of Harrogate House has given us a blank canvas to tailor The Pit to how we like it. We are creating an extraordinary dining and drinking experience that merits its position in the centre of this very special spa town.”

The Pit will boast an ‘American style’ menu and even its own beer, The Pit Canary.

Mr Wolstencroft added: “We wanted an architecturally stimulating design that contrasts with the heritage of the Victorian architecture of Harrogate, and The Pit will provide a unique backdrop for our discerning Harrogate customers.

“We have combined our expertise of running a quality location in Harrogate with our experience of managing other Pit sites in Leeds and this mix means we will create one of our leading locations.

“Most importantly, we’re good at fun, so we just want our customers to kick back and enjoy their Pit experience - it’s what we’re all about.”

The Harrogate bar will the third The Pit branded bar for Arc Inspirations who also run Banyan Bar on John Street, following on from the success of the Merrion Street, Leeds and Chapel Allerton branches.
