More than 100 guests from across Yorkshire attended.

Managing director at Rudding Park, Peter Banks told the Harrogate Advertiser: “The house is used for everything from weddings to conferences.

“Rooms have ben recarpeted and repainted to keep them up-to-date.

“This work has been completed over the last two years, and the house looks absolutely fantastic.”

He added: “We strive to provide exceptional service to all guests and our beautiful Grade I listed house deserves the same care and attention.

“This new refurbishment combines contemporary design with traditional elegance offering state of the art technology within the highest quality environment.”

There were testimonials to the hotel and its staff from guests at the evening.

Catherine Reid from Nestle said: “Rudding Park is a truly spectacular venue for events and to be able to take an event outside and experience a Segway just makes it that little bit more special.”

Amanda McMahon from The First Direct Group added: “I am always bowled over by Rudding Park, the rooms, the food, everything looked amazing.”

The investment is part of a bid to ensure the hotel - voted the best UK hotel in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2013 - ahead of its rivals.

An estimated £6million will be spent to create a destination spa in the coming years.

The development will include a hydrotherapy pool.

Mr Banks said: “We have to keep up. Hotels are very heavy on wear.

“A carpet will only last for ten years, maximum, for instance.

“We are one of the best hotels in the country and the spa will ensure we stay competitive.”

A pre-application document will be submitetd to Harrogate Borough Council in May.

The hotel and its staff are gearing up to host three teams during the opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France.

The identity of the teams is being kept secret even from the hotel at present, but the Managing Director insists he is ready to welcome any team.

He said: “The staff and myself are very excited for Le Tour, and to see who we are going to be hosting.

“There will be dignitaries and officials staying at the hotel as well.”

Rudding Park scooped a trio of accolades at the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2013.

It was voted Number One Hotel in the UK, second in the Top Hotels of Europe and fourth in the Top Hotels of the World in the awards, triumphing over some of the finest hotels in London.
