A motorcyclist and his passenger were taken to hospital after colliding with two deer on Sutton Bank on Sunday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place on the A170 at the Helmsley side of Sutton Bank near Thirsk just before 5pm on Sunday, May 17.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his fifties from Hebden Bridge, was taken to York district hospital with minor injuries.

“The pillion passenger, a man in his seventies, also from Hebden Bridge, was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital with Serious Injuries, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.”

The road was closed for several hours to allow collision investigators to carry out a full examination of the scene.
