The Drax Cup, for Under 9s is in its sixth year sponsored by Drax Power Limited and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board and Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.

The finals were the culmination of a threemonth competition which attracted some 300 schools from across Yorkshire and Teesside.

The four teams to reach the finals took to the pitch. The mixed team of under 9s boys and girls from Bedale went on to beat Driffield Junior School by 24 runs 253-229 in the finals of the competition held at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in Leeds.

The Drax Cup trophy and medals were presented by Andrew Gale, Yorkshire Club Captain and Katherine Brunt, the England and Yorkshire bowler. Both are ambassadors for the Drax Cup.

Vice-chairman of the English School Cricket Association, Adrian Grayson said: “This is a very prestigious tournament for any school to win and especially so for a small school like Bedale CE Primary School.

“Much credit for this success must go to team leader, Mr Hartley Haw who coaches the side and especially the boys and girls who had a day to remember at Headingly.”
